Hi,

Hope you are doing great! Thank you for showing your interest in the Student Council. We are always in search for motivated volunteers.

I have attached a PDF document which outlines different committees and their responsibilities. It will help you understand the working of different committees. We are also going to run three Student Symposiums next year (at ISMB in Orlando (Florida, USA), Latin America and Africa) and are looking for volunteers to organize these symposiums. Please let me know if you are interested.

Please do share with us any suggestions or ideas about how you would like to support the Student Council in general and how you, as part of the Student Council, would like to contribute to fostering the computational biology community.

Feel free to ask me any questions. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Adding people to Basecamp

Only Basecamp admins can do this (usually all ET members and committee chairs).

  • pick company (the Basecamp equivalent of user groups) to add the user to here: https://iscbsc.basecamphq.com/companies
  • click on ‘Add a new person’ below the chosen company (ISCB Student Council unless the new Basecamp member is primarily an RSG member, than choose that RSG as company)
  • remember to uncheck ‘Yes, automatically give this person access to all future projects’ when adding an new user to Basecamp.
  • remember to give the newly added user access to the necessary projects after adding creating the account. New accounts do not have access to any project so this needs to be done for every user. By clicking ‘Edit’ below the user’s name on the user overview page (https://iscbsc.basecamphq.com/companies). Common project access given to new users: ‘General Operations’, ‘SC Social Media Shares’, the Committee the user would like to volunteer in.

Draft email that can be sent out to new Basecamp members (don't forget to put in name and Committee)

Hi,

Thank you for expressing your interest in joining the ISCB Student Council (SC).

A minute ago, you should have received invitation to the Basecamp platform we use for discussions around the various projects that we work on in the SC. Please click the link in the invitation to pick a Basecamp username and password. It will just take a second and in no time you will become a member of the ISCB SC family. Beside the committees you were already interested in, you are invited to get involved in various committee(s). To get more information about other committees please visit www.iscbsc.org.

I also added you to the project of the 'Committee: XYZ'. There you will find information about our past committees activities. Student-Council wide activities can be found under 'General Operations. Please have a look around on Basecamp and read about our past activities, if you like. You will be notified about new threads by email.

Please do not hesitate to contact me in case you have any question, comment or suggestion.

Thanks again for getting involved in ISCB SC organization.

Best Regards,
